City of Horton

-    The City of Horton, Kansas (pop. 1,700) is seeking applicants for a full-time Public Works position. This position will be working as assigned in the water, wastewater treatment facility, streets, and the power plant facilities with expectations of being able to provide manual labor on a regular basis. Additionally, this position will assist in maintenance and repairs of the swimming pool, Mission Lake and cemetery.

Requirements Preferred:
Ability to operate backhoe, skid steers and/or other equipment related to public works.
Ability to read and understand city maps and records of utilities.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with other staff and supervisors.
Ability to operate a computer efficiently.
The desire and ability to obtain certification requirements within their first 18 months of employment.

High school diploma or GED.
Must obtain a valid Kansas class B CDL driver's license or be able to obtain one within 18 months of hire date.
Must be able to pass a thorough background check and pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical in addition to having a good driving record.
This applicant will be expected to assist in all departments as needed and assigned.

-    The City of Horton is currently accepting an eligibility list for future vacancies within our 24/7 small progressive law enforcement agency. We are located in Northeast Kansas within 1 hour of Topeka, Ks and St. Joseph Mo. You must be able to work all shifts and days, including weekends and holidays. If you have a strong work ethic, and have the desire and ability to help our agency progress in a professional manner, you are encouraged to apply.     Applicants must be 21 years of age at time of hire, with a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, have a valid Driver's License, must be free of any felony or domestic violence convictions and in good physical condition. KLETC certification is preferred. Applicant must be able to pass an extensive background investigation and be able to pass a written and psychological test.
